The hardware platform
The HMA Concept 800 is using the ABB AC800M Process Controller together with the ABB S800 I/O system. The AC800 is modular and scaleable in order to fit into any system from smaller systems to lager systems containing several thousands of signals.

The controller is using a redundant IP network with communication to the HMA OS 800 and Profibus is used for I/O communication. The AC800 also supports most common used protocols. The key features of the AC 800M Controller are:
  • Flexibility, the AC 800M Controller can be ordered mounted in ABB cabinets, or as individual units which may be mounted in accordance with the customers own requirements
  • Modularity, allowing for step-by-step expansion
  • Simple DIN-rail attachment/detachment procedures, using the unique slide & lock mechanism
  • Fast, simple fault-finding procedures available via module/channel LEDs
  • IP20 Class protection without the requirement for enclosures
  • Allows for the use of low-cost, sealed enclosures due to extremely low module heat dissipation, even at ambient 40 C (104 F)
  • All modules are fully EMC certified
  • Connection of up to 192 I/O signals, via Electrical Modulebus, is available
  • Connection of up to 1344 I/O signals, via Optical Modulebus, is available
  • Connect a large amount of I/O modules, via PROFIBUS DP and PROFIBUS DP-V1
I/O Interface Modules
There are a big variety of different types of I/O modules for different types of signals, but generally the following types is used:
(Click for bigger picture)

  • AI810 - 8 Analogue input channels
  • DI810 - 16 Digital input channels, with individual led indication for each channel
  • DO820 - 8 Digital output channels signals, with individual led indication for each channel
  • AI830 - 8 PT100 input channels
  • AI835 - 8 Thermocouple input channels
Cabinets
Each I/O station or main controller may be equipped with any combination of I/O modules. The modules are mounted on a din rail , where each module is plugged into each other. The I/O modules may be mounted in any direction which is suitable for the actual project. As different cabinets may have different types of signals, this configuration and mounting may be performed by the customer, in order to save time and cost.

Modules may be ordered separately from the component item list, with standard prices. The number of I/O cabinets for each project may also be decided by the customer, and cabinets can be added to the system at any time, by simply hooking it on to the communication bus. Each channel is defined in the I/O list and loaded into the controller SW.
